'It was special in front of the fans'

It took Nicklas Bendtner just eight seconds to open his Arsenal account in the Premier League – and it just happened to take place in a north London derby.

Back in 2007, the Dane came off the bench to meet Cesc Fabregas' inch-perfect corner and restore our lead at Emirates Stadium - a goal that would prove to be the winner.

"It was a very special moment for me," Bendtner told our In Lockdown podcast. "I remember very clearly standing next to Wenger on the sideline and we got the corner. He was like, 'We need to get him on.' He just patted me on the back and said, 'Go on and make a difference.'

"It was sort of always meant to come to me. I jumped fairly high, I would say. I probably don't get enough credit for jumping that high, the way I see everyone getting credit for jumping high right now, but never mind!

"Normally I probably would have planned a celebration or something but so many things went through my mind. Without me picturing all the stuff that I've been through, it sort of all came out in one. All I could do was literally just run the length of the field until Kolo Toure pulled me down.

"It was a very special moment, in front of the fans, against Tottenham, I couldn't have written it any better."
